The Tempest Duo uses valve rectifiers in it's power supply to offer the user a true all valve experience. The power supply of the Tempest Duo uses a massively over sized power transformer rated at 600VA, and also a separate power transformer for heater filaments. It uses dual rectifiers, hand wound filter choke, and European made filter capacitors. What this means is the amplifiers operates whisper quiet and there is never a shortage of power available for those times when no-one is about.
The Tempest Duo shares the same basic chassis as the stereo Tempest with the right hand chassis mirrored to give a balanced look. The output transformers on the Tempest Duo are wound on massive cores with a newly developed winding technique to give a very flat response and balanced current draw. The output transformers on the Tempest Duo are wound with focus on the bass and midrange regions whilst still maintaining extended high frequency response.
The Tempest Duo can be biased to run KT77, KT88, KT90, KT120, 6550, EL34, 6CA7 output valves.
The bias on the Tempest Duo is easily set by the owner. Above chassis adjustment point and build in meter make it a 1 minute task. Once set, it only needs to be checked every 4 to 8 weeks to keep the Tempest Duo running at their best. The Time Machine Duo is built on two mirrored chassis.
Uses modified Pi wound output transformers for fully balanced DC resistance, and AC impedance, which equals very low distortion and exceptional frequency response.
Runs separate over sized high voltage (600VA) and heater (125VA) power transformers.
Teflon valve sockets, paper in oil coupling capacitors, Panasonic Long Life FC cathode capacitors, Arcol bias resistors,
English high voltage copper hook up wire and solid copper core signal wire, CMC speaker binding posts.
Transformers manufactured using Australian magnet wire, Australian and Japanese laminations, English and New Zealand bobbins, Australian made covers.
Chassis tops are Australian laser cut 2mm stainless steel (1.2mm SS bottom plates).
